Series, One, and Elite are not the same object
To a game they all look like an Xbox pad. To a browser they are “a standard mapping with A/B/X/Y, bumpers, analog triggers, View/Menu, stick clicks, D-pad, and sometimes a Guide button.” That common subset is what this page tests. An Elite Series 2 with four paddles still has only the standard 17-ish buttons as far as Chrome is concerned. The paddles will not light up here, and they will not drag the score down.
Xbox Series controllers on Windows over USB almost always arrive as mapping “standard,” which is the highest-confidence path. Bluetooth on some hosts is slightly more forgetful about analog triggers. If LT/RT stay at 0% through a full pull, skip the trigger stage. That is a mapping gap, not a broken trigger.
Drift on Xbox gimbals
Potentiometer wear on the left stick is the classic Xbox complaint after a year of sprinting. The drift test on this page is the same protocol as the dedicated stick drift test: countdown, five seconds hands-off, rest-relative jitter for validity, P95 for the deadzone suggestion. Hall-effect replacements change the rest noise floor; they do not change how we measure. If you already swapped modules, run the test again and compare P95 rather than chasing a YouTube “perfect circle” screenshot.
Circularity on Xbox pads is often worse on the diagonal than on the cardinal axes after a drop. Rotate slowly at the rim and read per-quadrant error. Snapback is less discussed in Xbox forums than in stick-box communities, but a worn return spring still overshoots. Flick each stick once on the snapback step if you play anything with pixel-level aiming.
Triggers, rumble, and what we will not claim
Analog trigger peaks are recorded independently so a hair-trigger pull still counts once you have passed 90%. Impulse triggers and Bluetooth low-energy quirks are out of scope. Rumble uses the dual-rumble actuator when the session is in Chrome or Edge. Safari typically has no actuator; that is unsupported, not a failed Xbox motor.
For a developer-oriented raw view of the same pad, open the gamepad tester. For PS5 hardware with DualSense names, use the PS5 controller test instead of this page — the math is shared, the labels and mapping profiles are not.
